Our Code Of Conduct
A cornerstone of our approach is personal responsibility. This is deeply ingrained in our conduct as a company and as individuals. When someone joins the Gemba team, we ask that they agree to conduct themselves in a way that is demonstrative of the principles we espouse. We ask that all our employees, contractors and partners agree to and honor this code of conduct.
The Gemba Code
- We do our best to come from responsibility in our collaboration with each other and clients alike. We explicitly invite each other to call us on coping (non-responsibility). We are willing to call each other on coping—in an appropriate way.
- We use the decider protocol to make our agreements clear, expose disagreement early, and improve alignment. This implies: a) if you want something, state it explicitly as a proposal, b) everyone in the collaboration owns the responsibility to be explicit about their consent (in, out, go along), c) those who are 'out' have responsibility to propose modifications needed to reach consensus, d) when someone is out—you listen to them rather than trying to persuade them.
- We do our best to be fully present in our collaboration time. If we are not fully present, we are transparent about it—with ourselves and our collaborators.
- We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards of accountability and take responsibility to establish this culture in our organization.
- We are clear in our agreements (ie decider protocol, "commit to (do xyz) (by date)")
- We fulfill our agreements and verify with the receiving party - renegotiating early when necessary
- We call it—responsibly—when we don't feel someone is keeping their agreements
- There are no small commitments. I am not qualified to determine how important my commitment is to someone else.
- We live these agreements in order to foster personal excellence and valuable contribution to our business and industry. We share responsibility to both amend our behavior and propose amendments to this code of conduct as needed to achieve this goal.
